A house with a long history
Visitors to our Grosslehen may not realise at first glance that our house also harbours a little piece of contemporary history.
In fact, it was originally built as a farmstead back in 1632. Over the past few centuries, our family heritage has been transformed into a very special place of tranquillity, where you can now enjoy a break.

A historic farmhouse steeped in history
Our history
The history of our family dates back over 300 years, and for at least as long, our family history has been inextricably linked with the Grosslehen estate.
Farming has always been practised in this special little corner of Fieberbrunn.
The farm at that time also offered guest accommodation – albeit only a very limited number of rooms, as a supplement to the farming business.
An insight into the (recent) history of Grosslehen
28. November 1940
Veronika Huber was born the fifth of six children at the Strub inn in Waidring. At just 16 years of age, she was already having to run the family’s alpine dairy farm on the Steinplatte on her own. Later, Vroni moved to Fieberbrunn for work – and it was there that she met and fell in love with her future husband, Josef Geisl.
1963
Vroni moved to Grosslehen after marrying Josef – at that time, there was still no road leading to the farm.
1964
Annemarie kommt als erstes von drei Kindern zur Welt.
1965
At last! The construction of a road is making it easier to get to Grosslehen.
1969
Martina, the heart and soul of the household, is born.
The 1970s
The Grosslehen became known as a popular snack bar and was converted into an inn towards the end of the decade.
1975
Markus, today’s host, is born.
1985
A tragic blow befalls the family. Following the untimely death of Josef Geisl, Vroni and her three children are now left to fend for themselves.
1986
The former stable is being converted into a dining room, and the hayloft is being transformed into cosy rooms.
Early 2000s
The rooms on the second floor of the farmhouse are being extended and refurbished.
2010
Bettina and Markus get married. The foundations for what is now Grosslehen are laid.
2015
The family-run estate is undergoing a complete renovation.
Winter 2017
Six luxury chalets in charming Tyrolean style add to the holiday bliss in Grosslehen.
The future of our farm hotel
Our “youngsters” will be taking over the running of the hotel in future: Hannah, Laura and Alex.
Even now, they put their heart and soul into running things at Grosslehen. With them at the helm, our beloved farm hotel is in good hands, both today and tomorrow!
